New Article Published

Hi everyone,

I publish articles all the time on a variety of subjects, but rarely do I get really excited about them. Tonight is one exception, since an article I worked on for a fairly long time, interviewing people around the globe, posted on the Internet. The article is about the hidden costs of reproductive technologies, and you can read it by clicking here. I found the subject fascinating and learned quite a bit while doing research and interviews. In the end, I found many of my preconceptions about the subjects altered as I really dug into things.

During one depressingly poor year, I considered donating eggs (makes me sound like a chicken). I turned the thought away because I didn't like the notion of having a child out there that I was unaware of. Your article mentioned one thing that often popped into my head:
- "someone marrying their half-sibling"...especially with anonymity.
How much does a many receive from donating sperm?
Why in 'weighing the options' was adoption not considered?
Very interesting article, indeed.

Congratulations and excellent article! I had no idea so many used donated sperm or eggs. I'd feel really awkward to be on either side of that scenario.

Lost - I think a lot of people consider donating when desperate, but good thing you thought about the result. I heard rumors of a couple who was engaged, they were DNA tested because they came from donors, and that's how they found out they were half-siblings. Also, I would have put something in about adoption, but I wanted readers to make that jump themselves.

Alex - Thank you, sir. My eyes were definitely opened to how common the practice still is. Also, my eyes were opened to how awkward the situation becomes as the child grows up and asks questions. I don't think a lot of parents think about that, and the clinics don't really bring that part up.
